17 I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.  18 I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints. -Ephesians 1:17-18

In my bible study group we listened to a message by Tim Keller on hope and how powerfully it shapes our lives.

3...we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; 4 perseverance, character; and character, hope.  5 And hope does not disappoint us... -Romans 5:3-5

In NYC. My Life (in brief)

(scroll waaaaay down for first new post since August).

I've been living here for 4 months now and man does time fly.  So much is going on around you all the time.  It's a bit much at times.  When I get too excited or there are too many things going on, I tend to shut down and become quiet and lazy.  Grace diagnosed me as having some kind of infant, child disorder, hahaha.  But it's really fun here.
I have found a church: Remnant Westside Presbyterian.  And I've found a small group: FRI.E.N.D.s.  Our small group's name is Friends, how awesome.  And a lot of 'em understand obscure friends references.  We're super cool.  It's funny how God answers prayers.  But I'm pretty sure I can consider my finding-a-church prayer request answered.  It has really helped my transition into the working life and into the city life.

Work is good.  I like my coworkers and I like my  boss.  But  my hours are beginning to get a little ugly.  I don't like coming home at 9pm.

Otherwise, I'm just chillin' right now. Finished my fourth actuary exam 3 weeks ago, I won't have to begin studying for exam 5 for another few weeks.  So life is good right now :o).  This city has so much to offer.  I love it when people visit.  It's a chance to see more of the city.  So please come visit.

Today was our first snow.

In NYC. Ben and Steve visit.

I took my fourth actuarial exam on Nov. 5th.  Ugh.  It was a horrible, horrible day.  A four hour exam turned into an 8 hour extravaganza.  When I arrived at the test center I see all these panicky test takers trying to figure out what is going on.  Apparently our exams were lost/stolen, no one knows, but there was talk that the NY metro test center was F-ed and had to wait till May '08 to take it.  I was getting preeeeeeeeeetty pissed off.  But finally, after 4 hours of waiting and not knowing what the heck is going on, they started to pass out ghetto printed out copies of the exam that was emailed to them as a last minute .pdf.  sigh... I hate SOA (society of actuaries).  They can SMB (suck my .... n/m).

But all was good the very next weekend.  Ben and steve flew in from the west coast for a fun 4 day vacation in the city.  It was good to see these guys again, too.  Man I miss Cali.

It was basically a non-stop eating fest.  I haven't forgotten all the good food in Berkeley, but man, NYC has got some good food.

The best bagel place in the city.  Upper westside's little secret.  Ask when you come and visit.  You CANNOT leave without trying this.  You'll never eat store bought bagels again.  Thanks, Grace.

Joe's pizza (where a scene of spiderman was shot) and Lombardi's, one of manhattan's best pizza places.

Chicken, lamb, and rice plate from famous halal cart and lobster bisque soup from Soup Nazi restaurant.

Peter Luger's steak house, famous brooklyn steak house.  $70 p/person :o( and they onl accept cash.  But the bacon (upper right) was amazing.  I didn't know such bacon existed in the world.

Dessert from Mozart's cafe (live pianist and cellist play).  And corn, but not ordinary corn.  Corn from a cuban restaurant.  They do corn right.  And the juiciest pastrami sandwich from Katz deli.

Shout out to Don and Irene.  Thanks for hanging out with me when you guys are in town.

In NYC. My second week.

Kristine visited me from Baltimore with her friends.  More walking... more exploring... even buffer calves.  But good times :o).

My roommate on the left, Mark.  I miss boba from Berkeley.  NYC can't compare.

Since work didn't start for another couple weeks I decided to visit DC with Kristine.

My first New York friends:

This guacomole is amazing.  Please ask if you come and visit.  We'll get some.  Thakns, again for the furniture, maryam.  The pillows are really comfortable.
